Ozempic Warnings About NAION Eye-Injury Side Effect Still Missing as of July 2026

July 30, 2026 By Law Offices of Thomas J. Lamb, P.A.

Numerous medical journal articles have been published in the past couple of years reporting an association between non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic. As such, it is difficult to understand why Ozempic warnings about NAION as an eye-injury side effect are missing from the current version (Revised: 5/2026) of the Ozempic Prescribing Information or drug label in the United States.

Most recently, last week, it was announced that Ozempic warnings about NAION were being added to the Ozempic drug label in Australia.

Further, in this July 23, 2026, Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Medicines Safety Update titled โ€œGLP-1 RAs and rare vision disorderโ€, where the Ozempic label change concerning an increased NAION risk is highlighted, one finds a list of earlier actions taken by some other international drug regulators over the past year or so:

  • Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) – February 2026: Semaglutide (Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus): risk of Non-arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION)
  • European Medicines Agency (EMA) – June 2025: PRAC concludes eye condition NAION is a very rare side effect of semaglutide medicines Ozempic, Rybelsus and Wegovy
  • World Health Organization (WHO) – June 2025: The use of semaglutide medicines and risk of non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION)

Because there are no Ozempic warnings about NAION in the current US Ozempic drug label, drug injury lawsuits for people diagnosed with NAION while using Ozempic and suffering vision loss (which is usually permanent) are being filed against Novo Nordisk, the responsible drug company.

We point out that Ozempic vision loss lawsuits are not being filed against doctors who prescribed Ozempic for this easy-to-understand reason: These doctors did not have the benefit of any Ozempic warnings about NAION as an eye injury side effect.

People diagnosed with NAION who have suffered vision loss can submit an Ozempic Vision Loss Case Evaluation Form online. Or, they can have their potential Ozempic drug injury lawsuit reviewed by these two alternative means: (1) send an email to attorney Tom Lamb using TJL@LambLawOffice.com or (2) call him at 910-256-2971.
