A new 2025 medical study about Depo-Provera (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate) identified two risk factors for meningioma, a side effect associated with Depo-Provera injections.
An article in the November 2025 edition of the medical journal JAMA Neurology, “Depot Medroxyprogesterone Acetate and Risk of Meningioma in the US”, which reported the findings of this 2025 Depo-Provera medical study, pointed out that there are two sets of women more likely to develop meningioma with Depo-Provera injections:
- Women with at least 4 years of Depo-Provera use; and,
- Women who started their Depo-Provera injections after age 31.
Essentially, these are two risk factors for meningioma developing while getting Depo-Provera injections or after one stops using Depo-Provera.
In more detail, from the Abstract for this recent medical journal article:
Use of [Depo-Provera (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate)] had a relative risk of 2.43 (95% CI, 1.77-3.33) for meningioma diagnosis compared with controls. Notably, this risk was confined for patients with longer than 4 years of exposure or starting the prescription at ages older than 31 years.
We are investigating Depo-Provera drug injury lawsuits for women diagnosed with intracranial meningioma who are seeking legal compensation from the responsible pharmaceutical companies. Some of those Depo-Provera cases could involve women with one or both of these two risk factors for meningioma, while other cases do not.
